Corporate Coaching

Do you wish you could plan, prioritize and work more effectively when faced with so many competing demands?

Are you playing the “DIY” (do it yourself) game far too much?

Do essential conversations involving difficult interpersonal issues, giving feedback or resolving conflicts make you squirm?

Would you like to be more effective at managing performance, getting buy-in from others and fostering accountability?

If you answered Yes to one or more of these questions, then Coaching may be an option for you.

Over the years, I’ve worked with frontline and mid to senior leaders and their direct reports from a variety of industries.  My clients are valiant people who are eager to make a difference to their team members, the organization and to themselves. Here are some examples of the types of problems I’ve helped them overcome:

Making First things First- when it comes to time management most leaders are swimming upstream, how can you complete top priorities without getting pulled into day to day operations and working late nights? By implementing new habits and making some changes to how you currently work, you can significantly transform your work life.

Delegation, Setting expectations and Empowering others- our job as leaders is to get the job done with and through others. Reserve the D.I.Y projects for home improvement or creative pursuits! With some shifts in thinking and implementation of new skills, you can un-burden yourself and have more time to focus on high value work.

For example, let’s explore the story of a past client I worked with, I’ll call him Joe. He worked 60-80 hours a week and many weekends. He felt tired and never quite caught up. Through our work together Joe discovered an effective way to work that also created a more engaged, accountable team. Joe is now able to focus on getting more great work done. He rarely works late nights and weekends anymore. He is happier. His team is happier and results have improved significantly.

Essential Conversations- the more senior you are in an organization, the more important honing your interpersonal skills become. To create transformation you must seek to inspire, engage, develop and transform your people. This means operating from a ground of trust, honesty and transparency for starters. It means acknowledging people in a way that is meaningful for them. It also means dealing with issues as they come up in a timely manner.  Learn step-by-step processes for engaging in a variety of situations that may be emotionally charged but critical to performance outcomes and relationship cohesiveness.

Creating Engagement- with the diversity of personalities among our team members, managing everyone according to their needs consistently is not always possible. However, you can learn communication skills that will increase clarity and understanding, mobilize others to action, have them take more ownership for outcomes and strengthen your relationship with them.

What are the benefits of having a coach?

  • Take focused actions based on your strengths. Set goals and take actions that leverage your strengths in a powerful way.
  • Understand your own and others’ preferred communication styles. When you understand yourself and others, rapport is quickly established, and communications of all types are more effective.
  • Establish and accomplish stretch goals. You will find it easier to set and attain ambitious stretch goals with the support and accountability of the coaching relationship.
  • Make better decisions. You will become more focused as you share ideas and implement plans.

How does it work?

Coaching is a collaborative alliance between a professional coach and an individual. The coaching partnership is a thought provoking process designed to allow the individual and the organization to meet their goals.

The coaching relationship begins with a one-on-one strategy session either in person or on the phone. At this time, both the client and the coach will begin to define the parameters of the alliance based desired outcomes of the client. Coaching sessions are delivered by phone for the agreed upon length of time. The content of coaching sessions are strictly confidential. The duration of the coaching relationship varies from 6 months to a year or several years.

Coaching is most effective when client is open to being coached. This means the client is:

  • Willing to engage in a 360 feedback process, a Disc® assessment or other tools provided as required.
  • Willing to be self-honest and self-reflective,
  • Willing to see different perspectives,
  • Willing to let his or her direct reports know that he/she is engaged in a leadership development process and at a high level, his/her area of focus.

Brief Overview of Coaching Process:

  1. Initial intake session with coachee whereby the coach and client co-create the coaching alliance.
  2. 3 way call between coach, coachee and direct supervisor.
  3. All 3 parties sign the Coaching Partnership Agreement
  4. Coaching sessions: 2 hours per month, 6 months minimum.
  5. 3 way quality assurance calls quarterly between coach, coachee and direct supervisor to discuss progress on goals. Coachee provides Client Impact Report Quarterly.

What is the role of the coachee?

To have true commitment to the coaching relationship.

To focus on personal and professional growth and development.

To have a sense of humor.

To maintain composure in the face of disappointment.

To have the courage to take risk and overcome professional obstacles.

What can I expect from the coach?

The coach's role is to:

  • Profoundly listen in order to understand the individual's circumstances, challenges and inquires as to what is not being said
  • Help client clarify strengths, values and goals
  • Ask provocative questions to foster shifts in thinking & new perspectives
  • Provide tools, structures or resources to assist the client to move forward
  • Enhance client self-awareness and learning through objective assessment tools, observation, feedback and ideas
  • Champion and encourage client potential and validate client progress
  • Encourage growth by challenging client to stretch in directions that are in alignment with goals
  • Be a sounding board for facilitating the expansion of fresh ideas, alternative strategies and identifying opportunities
  • Be a catalyst to focus client planning, problem solving, decision making and forward movement
