Working Effectively with Multiple Generations

You work with people who have different skills, abilities, interests, life experiences and expectations. Some are younger, some older, some with a lot of different work experiences, some new to the work world, some with a lot of education, some without. You’re expected to function as a team, coping with an ever-increasing workload and "getting along" with your team. Stress levels are high, and communication is often lacking, misinterpreted or misunderstood. Sound familiar?

In this interactive session, we will uncover some of these differences with the goal of understanding how diversity helps us to be more effective in our roles. You’ll gain a greater understanding of:

  • The multiple generations in the workplace and how their expectations vary
  • The impact of a global economy, technology, human motivators and values
  • How Management styles have changed and what is expected of managers and leaders in the workplace today
  • Tips for Working with multiple generations

Effective Conversations that Get Results

Highly successful organizations have demonstrated that what is behind their success is how their people handle critical conversations. Effectiveness in this area of communication relates directly to higher productivity, quality, safety and retention. Learn practical tools to prevent conflict and improve communication:
  • Learn and practice an effective 4 step communication tool for conflict prevention
  • Learn more about your conflict style and shifts you can make to be more effective in resolving issues with others

For example, let’s explore the work of a past client. This leader found that her staff was having challenges dealing with interpersonal issues that arose among team members or outside clients. She wanted them to be more proactive in solving their own issues without continually coming to her for solutions. The leader and her team learned key practical tools for engaging in these courageous conversations that they all have committed to utilizing with outstanding results.

Working Successfully with Different Leadership Styles

In our daily interactions with co-workers or clients we are frequently in the process of creating agreements, getting buy-in on projects, giving feedback and/or coaching others. A tool that allows us to recognize and remember someone else’s style for these exchanges is most useful. Gain understanding and acceptance of your work style and of those who work differently than you do.

  • Learn how to recognize other communication styles quickly
  • Learn how to flex your style so you are more effective in your business interactions
  • Learn how to be get “buy-in” and create agreement with other styles
  • Become a better leader in helping others grow and develop

The Art of Giving and Receiving Feedback

Most employees are unsatisfied with the frequency and type of feedback they receive. Many claim the only time they get feedback is when something goes wrong. Constructive feedback certainly outpaces positive acknowledgement in most performance management communications. This has led to acknowledgement deprived workplace environments that diminish engagement.

As leaders we must be in tune with individual feedback needs. Join me for this stimulating, hands-on workshop where you will engage in the following learning objectives:

  • Learn and work with a practical 6 step model for giving valuable feedback
  • Learn 4 key components of fast feedback
